Currently, Meijer is looking for a Travel Coordinator. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for coordinating and controlling processes and expenses for grand opening and corporate events, hotel program and vendor relations.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Contracted Hotel Program:
- Vendor Relations
- Negotiations, (initial contract commitment, no shows, etc.)
- Site inspection/Vendor meetings
- Following up on complaints (hotel and TM)
- New market site inspections (new/large markets req. 2+ days)
- RFP hotel program (coordinate with Meijer and hotel)
- Reporting - cost savings
- Corporate Events/Meeting Planning:
- Vendor Relations
- Reviewing/signing contracts
- Negotiations
- Market reviewing/site selections
- Event planning/details
- Invoice/billing
- Reporting - cost savings
- Coordinate Grand Opening:
- Communicating with Operations - initial room blocks, additions, drop dates
- New market visit
- Hotel negotiations
- Managing room blocks (contract terms/commitment)
- General communication, deadlines, process
- Billing/no show negotiations
- Direct bill reconciliation
- Post GO stats/reporting
- Industry Updates:
- MPI membership/attendance
- Trending
- Systems
- Networking
- Benchmarking
Education:
- Business Degree, Hospitality Management, and/or Event Management, Logistics (Flight scheduling), Real Estate/Relocation
Experience:
- 3+ years experience in vendor negotiations, contracts review, business, logistics, administration
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of travel industry; Meijer Travel Policies
- Proficient in written and spoken communication

| 2010-04-26:
- Proven ability to create domestic and international reservations for clients to include air, hotel, rail and ground transportation.
- Strong working knowledge and understanding of international pricing rules, exchange transactions and procedures.
- Understanding and expertise of international travel requirements such as visas, passports and immunizations.
- Ability to communicate with clients in Spanish required.
- Supports multiple accounts.
- Minimum 3 - 5 years corporate experience required.
- Proficient in Worldspan required.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
